Just Like Sir Isaac Newton
...an APPLE has konked me on the noggin!
The iMac is here! I hooked up the mouse & keyboard and plugged it in. It booted up (OSX 10.4) and I was able to play a CD. NOW WHAT?
Apple uses a weird little round mouse that has only one button. No right-click?!?!? Where's the NOTEPAD? Where's the PAINT? It has a CD-RW drive, but I have no idea how to burn a CD. How do you use this thing?!?!?
Next stop - the library to get an "OSX For Dummies" manual.

Screw the CDs. The question is whether it will play Guitars A Go-Go. Look for the turn-table - it has to be there somewhere, right next to the lever with the three choices (33 1/3,45,78).
Oh man, Craig, do you rock!
I could never figure out Macs, not sure why. Probably because I grew up with DOS machines and only know the hard way to do things. Everyone that uses one for a while swears by them though.
wiz: I'm going to get a USB 8-track tape deck for this thing next. I'll probably have to add tons more RAM first.
anita: I'm in the same boat as you! I've used PCs going back to 1981 & the old days of DOS-based programs. I'm talking COMMODORE PET 2000s and KAYPROs here! (Thanks for checking in; I'll be sure to say "no" to crack...)
Congratulations! I'm sure you'll figure it out in no time.
Are you saying that the computer is TOO SIMPLE for you? Awesome.
I wish you luck in your Macintosh adventure. I don't use one myself, but I once did. It's pretty easy.
dd: I guess that's the problem - it's too simple!
I got the "Macs for Dummies" book (and two others!) from the Library yesterday. There is supposedly something called "AppleWorks" bundled with the OSX. SURE THERE IS! I can't find the danged thing!
I guess what I need is an "OSX for Dummies for Dummies" book to tell me how to read the "OSX for Dummies" manual.
On the other hand, I bought this thing specifically to capture, edit & produce video DVDs, so maybe I should just wait till I buy and configure all the associated hardware and software before I get too crazy with this thing.
Didn't computers used to have helpful manuals with them? Why don't they do that anymore? I just got a new laptop and desktop, and it's a bit like being in the dark. Apparently you are just supposed to konw everyhitng already. I want a book with each computer that says something like: "To burn a DVD, right click on...." for everything I could possibly need it for.
As for the music part, you'll want to check and make sure the problem isn't just dust on the needle...
csl: Thanks for the tip about checking for dustballs! I ran right out and bought one of those teeny-weeny brushes you clip on the side of the tone-arm! And because I am such an audiophile I also put a quarter on top of it to stop it from skipping!
